Part A: In order Divide. Think of the matching multiplication fact.
- 8 ÷ 8 = 1
- 16 ÷ 8 = 2
- 24 ÷ 8 = 3
- 32 ÷ 8 = 4
- 40 ÷ 8 = 5
- 48 ÷ 8 = 6
- 56 ÷ 8 = 7
- 64 ÷ 8 = 8
- 72 ÷ 8 = 9
- 80 ÷ 8 = 10
- 88 ÷ 8 = 11
- 96 ÷ 8 = 12
Part B: Mixed up Divide.
- 72 ÷ 8 = 9
- 0 ÷ 8 = 0
- 24 ÷ 8 = 3
- 56 ÷ 8 = 7
- 8 ÷ 8 = 1
- 40 ÷ 8 = 5
- 88 ÷ 8 = 11
- 96 ÷ 8 = 12
- 80 ÷ 8 = 10
- 64 ÷ 8 = 8
- 48 ÷ 8 = 6
- 32 ÷ 8 = 4
Part C: Missing number Write the number that makes each fact true.
- 40 ÷ 8 = 5
- 32 ÷ 8 = 4
- 48 ÷ 8 = 6
- 88 ÷ 8 = 11
- 64 ÷ 8 = 8
- 96 ÷ 8 = 12
Tips for teachers and parents
- Halve three times. For 64 ÷ 8: half of 64 is 32, half of 32 is 16, half of 16 is 8.
- Use the 4s: dividing by 8 is dividing by 4 and then by 2. 72 ÷ 4 = 18, and 18 ÷ 2 = 9.
- Recall the close facts directly once they are known: 56 ÷ 8 = 7 and 64 ÷ 8 = 8.
- Every dividend here is even. If halving ever gives an odd number before the third step, the student has made a slip.
Common mistakes
- Halving only twice, which gives the ÷ 4 answer. An answer like 48 ÷ 8 = 12 is the sign. Count the three halves.
- Mixing up 56 ÷ 8 = 7 and 48 ÷ 8 = 6. Check by multiplying back with the 8 times table.
What to practice next

Frequently asked questions
What is the trick for dividing by 8?
Halve the number three times. 40 ÷ 8: half of 40 is 20, then 10, then 5.
Why do all the problems use even numbers?
Every multiple of 8 is even, so only even numbers divide evenly by 8.
